The La Center Lions Club was charted in April of 1984, sponsored by Lion Dale Calhoun, Lion Bill Fish and the Hazel Dell Lions Club. We started with 20 Charter member. Our membership has grown to more than 40 official members and many other community members that help out periodically as time allows.
The La Center Lions have always worked closely with the La Center School District through many work projects and contributions. Lions have been spotted at football games (working as the Chain Gang crew), the Fall Carnival (manning the “Jail”), serving in the NW Lions Mobile Health Screening Unit providing sight and hearing tests for school children and at various fundraisers for everything from Senior Night Alcohol Free Party to the Jump Start Backpack Program to provide school supplies and backpacks for students in need.
The La Center Lions also collaborates with other area Lions Clubs throughout southwest Washington provided free of charge more than 6,000 flag sets to first graders in 75 schools per year. Each child received a flag with its own base and a brochure about the “stars and stripes” right before Memorial Day.
The La Center Lions have a long history of feeding the hungry and providing helping hands for many activities such as Our Days community celebration and the family event of National Night Out. Additionally, our club has supported many charitable works and activities throughout our Lions Zone, District, Nationally and Internationally.
Our club is a service club that is constantly evolving – changing our activities to meet the needs of our community while never losing our focus on helping those in need. We have also engaged our youth in service through the sponsorship of a LEOs club in our middle school and high school. We are proud to help these young leaders develop their skills and harness their desire to to serve others through Lions.
Our club meets twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Thursday at 7:00pm at the La Center Elementary School cafeteria. Please feel free to join us.
